Sunrise and sunset, these are two key genre any contemporary artist does well to best avoid as subject. These as subject, although of nature, have been over used, romanticised to syrup and remain hackneyed, a cliche, often Kitsch. I was not ‘making art’ when I photographed that first sunrise but of course any act of me portraying something almost automatically will be considered art because of my profession – artist. I wanted to capture that simple but all enveloping sense of awe that struck the minute sunrise nears in that exact position at that specific time because I considered it momentus.
